Akon To Sign Muntie Trio

The Montie Trio (Source: Daily Graphic)

In what may be described as a blessing in disguise, many may begin to start preparing their dancing shoes and musical ears for something superb as the Montie 3; Alister, Mugabe and Gunn seem to be landing themselves a good deal with one of the world's biggest record labels.

In what may come as a surprise to many, Akon is set to sign the trio unto his record label Konvict Music. Speaking to Comedy Empire, the iconic musician said he heard some of their demos and was in the country to meet their management and get things done. He said, "This is a giant step to raising musical talents straight out of prison. That's what Ex-convicts do....We support real when we see one." Commenting on the whole event he said, "threat is part hip-hop and to be jailed is also hip-hop."

Comedy Empire however has gathered that, this deal if successful would see the trio branded as M.A.G (abbreviation of their surnames). They're set to release an album titled Muntie which would have hit songs like Kpokpogbligbli, Obaa Sophia, Murder, Outta Jail, Free Speech and others.

Comedy Empire would bring you more details as events unfold.

‘BULLDOG Saved my Career’ - DKB

With his recent sold out flawless comedy show, DKB known in real life as Derrick Kobina Bonney disclosed to nanayaw18.com’s Revised edition show with BrandNanaYaw that his
career was saved by CEO of Bull Haus - Lawrence Nana Assimarh AKA Bull Dog.

The king of Stand up Comedy in Ghana, noted that when He returned from Big Brother Africa after his incident of Slapping a fellow female house mate, Ghanaians did not want to see or hear anything he had to say with regards to the incident hence it was hard for him to even get a platform to explain himself.
According to DKB, Bulldog called him and advised him on a few steps to take if he wants his career back. One of the steps was to launch a nationwide campaign against hitting of women.
‘BullDog advised and I took it, He said: ‘You are the only one who knows how it feels to hit a woman and get lashed hence if you launch a passionate “I am sorry campaign against hitting women, the world will forgive you and support’ (not quoting him verbatim)
He noted that the advised saved his career, the campaign was well received and people felt the remorse of which he was (DKB regretted hitting a lady).
Years down the line, DKB is celebrated today as Ghana’s Keep of Comedy and he openly admits that he is grateful to Bulldog for that advise.

Ghanaian Comedians Cannot Fill the Accra International Conference Centre

Ghanaian Comedians Cannot Fill the Accra International Conference Centre and this was the headline to a news article just three months back on Peace FM Online. This is how it reports it:

"Chief Executive Officer of Event Factory Ghana Limited, Nabil Alhassan has said it is not possible to hold a comedy show at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) with only Ghanaian comedians and have the auditorium full to capacity.

Nabil, speaking on Pluzz FM’s AM Pluzz after successfully organising ‘The Lords of the Ribs season 3’ which featured comedians from Ghana and Nigeria said, although some Ghanaian comedians are a delight to watch, the industry is still growing.

His answer to a question by host, Sammy Flex, as to whether there can be a full auditorium should organisers put only Ghanaian comedians on the bill was a direct ‘no’.

Absolutely no because it’s very difficult for Ghanaians to accept certain things. The Ghanaian comedy is now growing. Some people are finding it difficult to accept that our comedians are funny. But when they come to such events, they realise our comedians are good,” he said.

According to Nabil, even getting half of the auditorium full will not be an easy task; reason foreign comedians would have to be featured.

For you to entice the Ghanaian, you have to add something extra, something foreign. If you want to do a Ghanaian comedy, it will be very difficult to have half of the auditorium full,” he noted.
“Our artistes can make it happen; not our comedians. We can give it a try..........."

Three months down the lane, on July 9th, Ghana's King of Comedy, DKB, hosted the first ever one man comedy show at the National Theatre and guess what, the show which had only Ghanaian acts saw the place packed to capacity. I believe Ghanaians had a good time and for the first time, each act had a standing ovation. The godfather of Comedy, KSM, attested to the fact the industry has developed over the years. Aside DKB, most of the acts were not too familiar with Ghanaians and getting a full auditorium with people standing was amazing.

Now, real supports real. Nigeria built their comedians we invite and pay huge sums of money by using them cos it was affordable for them. While they built theirs, we sat here and killed ours, got them to perform and sold their brand to us. Now they're making it international and we can no longer afford the Basketmouths, Bovis, Bakaseys and what have you.

We never tried but we say it's not possible. We don't support our own but we expect them to make it big. I'm now confident that the industry has come to stay and with marketing minded comedians like DKB, Romanus, Sarkodie, Ajeezay, Khemikal, James Brown, Halfco, Jacinta, Tee Kay, McDon, Lekzy, Chopsticks, Kalybos, Jeneral Ntatia and Doc, OB, Nino and others, the industry has a very bright future.

I remember when some years ago I wrote about the comedy industry and it's ability to gel. I had insults from people on Twitter. I guess today, these same period would be sitting somewhere and say "them dey force ooooo." On this note, I say a big thank you to all patrons of Ghana Comedy and the forefathers on whom their labour we build; KSM, Fritz Baffuor, Tommy Annan, David Oscar, you've set the foundation and the current generation would build an empire on it.

Like E.L would say, "Next time you hear GH COMEDY, put some respek pon it."

God Bless Ghana Comedy

Thousands Dislocate Ribs At Point of View

Source: georgebritton.com

On Saturday night, history was made as lot of emergency cases were reported at various hospitals as patrons of DKB's Point of View locked their ribs due to excessive laughter. They were left with little or no air to breath as they were thrilled with performances from the beginning of the show to the end.

The National Theatre which was filled to capacity which left others standing through out the show had Comedians Nino, Lekzy, Tee Kay, McDon the Shoeman, Ajeezay, Foster Romanus, James Brown, Jacinta and a host of others taking turns in cracking ribs, , the audience could not just help but give standing ovations after each act.

Representing the old generation of comedians was the godfather KSM who after a brief performance introduced the King of comedy of which he enstooled and handed over the title of King of Comedy to DKB. Arriving in glitz and glamour to humbly accept the title, DKB aarived in a palanquin with a troupe of dancers unshering him in. The King didn't leave anything to spare as he gave his Point of View on various topics ranging from Politics to music to race and several others.

Also on stage that night were the reigning artist of the year and Koko King, E.L together with Volta Regime President, Edem who entertained the audience with the best of tunes from the nation. Gracing the occasion were a host of celebrities; Elikem Kumordjie, Gifty Anti and husband, Nana Ansah Kwao, D-Cryme, Lexis Bill and several others. The MC for the Night, Khemikal, aside his performance made sure no one was given chance to breath as he locked them down to a good show.

MC for the night, Comedian Khemikal

Talking to Comedy Empire, patrons expressed joy at how the once dead comedy industry has been revived by Point of View. To some, it's a remarkable day in their lives as they gave their hearts to Ghanaian Comedy for the first time. Many Ghanaian comedy atheists at the end of the show have now been born again. To those who lost their love for the art, fell in love again.

Chale if you missed this then go and come next year..................watch this space for review of the show by your favourite acts.

Jacinta To Serve Seductive Humour

Imagine a well endowed lady lecturer standing before you in a lecture theatre. Ok, now imagine she is your pastor. Chai!!! Let's transfer all those visuals to the National Theatre and imagine this lady is a comedienne getting you wet............with humour. That's what Ghana's only female comedienne promises to achieve come this Saturday at DKB's Point of View.

The sexy comedian, speaking to Comedy Empire said, "I sincerely don't know what Ghanaians should expect cos all the guys have said what I wanted to say.", she said laughing. "I can only assure them of quality entertainment, the female way.", she added. The comedy diva who has rocked several stages such as Comedy Express and Lord of the Ribs with her beauty and funny comic accent has had a seductive way of making her audience pay attention. It would be a historic night for her as she would be the only female comedian to rock the stage, rubbing shoulders with the men.

Comedy lovers over the years have unanimously crowned her as the Queen of Ghana Comedy. She would on that night be rocking the stage with colleague humour therapists; Id James Brown, Khemikal, Lekzy, Nino, Ajeezay and Romanus. Performing that night too would be reigning artist of the year and Koko King, E.L alongside President of Volta Regime, Edem. Making a special appearance that historic night would be KSM and Afia Schwarzenegger.

Dangerous Chemistry at Point of View

James Brown (left) and Khemikal (right)
When you put an Idiot and a Khemikal together at the lab, you'd either get yourself  corroded or get your lab tearing down and that's what happened yesterday on the Late Night Celebrity Show when Eddy Blay hosted two of Ghana's finest comedian, Khemikal and Id James Brown.

In what turned out to be a mini comedy show, the two comedians couldn't stop hitting on and teasing each other as they took round in throw jabs. Khemikal talked about how unstable James Brown's relationships have been ever since he became a comedian and Brown also talked about how the comedy industry is going to be affected since Khemikal doesn't go to church anymore to interceed on their behalf.

The duo, who would also be performing at DKB's Point of View this Saturday talked about how anxious and excited they were. For the host of the night, Khemikal, he says it's going to be challenging cos as an MC of a comedy show, he's got to keep the audience laughing in between the acts including his main performance. James Brown on the other hand is strategically preparing his wits from relationship to education to a little bit of politics. He's promised to 'dey the top' (hit majorly on) Ghana Police due to his personal experiences with them. They said on the night, they promise Ghanaians nothing about the best of Khemikal laughter prepared by an Idiot of a James Brown.

Talking about the future, the two said they are planning on something major of which a one man show is part, but the rest are for lovers of comedy to watch out for. The duo have been on the big stages such as A Night of 1021 and Music, KSM @ 58, Comedy Express and a host of others.

Performing that night too would be reigning artist of the year and Koko King, E.L alongside President of Volta Regime, Edem. Making a special appearance that historic night would be KSM and Afia Schwarzenegger.

OB To Perform Surgery At Theatre

Fast rising comedian, Obarima Amponsah popularly known as OB sometimes known as Frozen Chicken, would be operating on patrons at this weekend's event, Point of View. In an interview with Comedy Empire, the frozen chicken comedian said, "This Saturday would be a test for me, obviously not my first test, but it would be a platform to prove to Ghanaians and the world at large that OB is still active in the theatre room."

OB, who has performed with comedy godfather, KSM and on other bigger platforms like A Night of 1021 Laughs and Music and Lord of the Ribs Season III says he expects a full auditorium like his colleagues and all patrons should get ready for another tickling surgical operation.

At the time of the interview, Comedian OB was preparing his surgical tools as he believes a good show can make your unemployed boyfriend very strong in the prayer room. He would be on stage with fellow comedians, Id James Brown, Jacinta, Khemikal, Lekzy, Nino, Ajeezay and Romanus. Performing that night too would be reigning artist of the year and Koko King, E.L alongside President of Volta Regime, Edem. Making a special appearance that historic night would be KSM and Afia Schwarzenegger.

Everyone has a point of view. But what is OB's Point of View?

Lekzy To Lite Up Point of View

The excitement continues to build up as the days draw closer to the historical comedy show in Ghana as people keep wondering what Ghanaian comedians have got in stock for them at DKB's Point of View.

Emmanuel Nkansah Ansong known in the industry as Lekzy Dekomic could not hide his excitement also when the news team caught up with him. The humour therapists who is noted for his deep thinking jokes said, "This is actually a big platform for me and I'm happy to be a part of history making. Not because it's a one man show, but also for the fact that all performers are Ghanaians."

He said this is an opportunity to showcase to the world what comedy is. Not hiding his expectations he said, " I expect a fully packed auditorium to come witness authentic GH comedy cos I'm going to lite some fun so that I can covert them to fans. Did I rhyme?" He ended with a wild laughter.

On the night, Lekzy would be performing alongside other Ghanaian acts like Jacinta, OB, Nino, Id James Brown, Ajeezay and Romanus and the grandpa himself, KSM.

Comedians Take Swipe At Sark-M.Anifest Beef

The beef between Sarkodie and M.manifest keeps getting interesting as Sark, King of GH Rap, last night released his reply to M.anifest in his new song, Kanta. This comes just few days after the latter released God MC in which he threw jabs at the former.

The comedy industry haven't taken it lightly since Kanta was released. As usual, they took to social media and you just can't miss out on the fun. Is the beef between Sark and Manifest for real?

Take a look at some posts:

And Jesus Laughed: Rom-Anus Cracks Jesus' Ribs

Never in the history of the Bible has it been recorded or said that Jesus laughed but on 1st July 2016, Christian entertainment was taken to a new level when comedy was taken to the church as patrons were hit with hot bouts of performances by comedians Chopsticks, T-Kay, and the guest comic pastor Rev. Bonsu a.k.a Papa Bones (Sarkodie Acheampong). The Vessels of the Prince of Peace Congregation also entreated the audience with a soothing worship song.

The man of the moment, Foster Romanus, came and took the audience through a time of praises before his act. He once again proved why he is the Headmaster of Ghana Comedy as he thrilled patrons with gospel comedy which did not spare the tribes of Ghana as he kept imagining if Ghanaians were in the Garden of Eden.

The event saw the launch of the Romanus Ministries, which aims at bringing to the Christian community quality entertainment and also reach out to the needy in very remote parts of the country of which Jesus Laughs Too is part. The event was heavily patronized as the head pastor of the Prince of Peace Congregation was there to support, together with the family and friends of Comedian.
