Laughter is Life, Laughline is Oxygen - Khemikal

Come this Saturday, 3rd September at the Silverbird Lounge, the face of Ghana Comedy would undergo a revolution as Kasa Entertainment brings to Ghanaians a monthly comedy show dubbed Laughline.

Catching up with him at his residence, Daniel Selase known by stage name Khemikal, was preparing towards Saturday's show and could not hide his excitement. He said, "This is not a stage to joke with despite being on bigger stages in the past few months. It is my responsibility as the only Khemikal in the lab to cause a chemical laughter on Saturday. Laughter is Life, Laughline is Oxygen so he who doesn't laugh is surely dead."

Khemikal on that night would be performing alongside fellow humour therapists; Pararan, Jacinta, Lekzy, Romanus, Id James Brown, DKB, Tee Kay, OB, Nino and Augustin Dennis who would be the host for the night. There'll also be karaoke, poetry and musical performances for all art lovers.

Night Of 1022 Laughs In Review, Lekzy Decomic In Focus

The auditorium lights were dimmed to increase focus on the stage. Foster Romanus, the host warmed up the already excited audience and ushered in the next performer. Everyone held their breath – skepticism showed on faces. It is a Ghanaian comedian coming up so quite a number of people buried their faces into their phones.

Tension built up, certainly not in the heart of the crowd who had paid to have a laugh, for they had nothing to worry about. It was their moment to relieve the stress.

So someone had to carry the cross. He walked onto the stage. The lights shone on his face and reflected beams of anxiety and uncertainties. He wasn’t as cheerful as we were. He was unfamiliar with the crowd. The Dome also knew him not. But the gentleman believed in love at first sight. He had come to show his love.

And just like a true lover is honest enough to confess his weakness to his crush, Lekzy DeComic commences by expressing disappointment in his own appearance. He is obviously a short man; in what is garnished with the term ‘vertically challenged’.  He begins his performance by literally making fun of his height. He strikes it little by little and hits the punchline.

The auditorium goes haywire. Everyone sits up. Its show time!

It was the first Saturday of August and the venue was the Accra International Conference Centre. The conference is nearly full to capacity. Top notch local and international comedians had already electrified the place. After Nigeria’s Kenny Black came Ghana’s OB, followed by Destalker. Lekzy now had his turn.

Born Emmanuel Nkansah Ansong, the 26 year old comedian registered himself as viable enough to beat the odds of the comedy show business. On a normal day, his hilarity breaks ribs, but at the Night of 1022 Laughs, dude was ready to break a leg.

20 minutes standing before a crowd numbering was enough time to write his name in the good books of thecomedy industry.

Lekzy thrilled the audience with gags that cut across several spheres of life. He picked on musicians, and run satires on politicians. He made jokes out of the Ghanaian way of life in a way that was creative and amusing. In well calculated wits, he played around on a few sensitive tribalism scenarios.

He was interactive. His scenarios were relatable too. Every passing second of his performance got the crowd giggling. Like the grass emerges effortless, he sent the audience laughing their heads off uproariously.

What Lekzy did on Saturday Night of 6th August 2016 is what Ghanaians have yearned for, all their lives, and what every attendant of the show was entitled to. It was no wonder that he received a standing ovation from the audience, in what seemed like a rehearsed move to celebrate his talent. It was a sight to behold.

We probably found a straw to clutch in the dying moments, we can we got an anchor to keep the boat afloat. We found hope. Two years in the game and he has electrified the biggest gigs in town: Comedy barComedyExpressComedy ShopRemember Now Concert and the recent DKB Point of View. This particular show made an impressive climax.
The comedy show was headlined by Nigeria’s comedy guru, I Go Die alongside performances from, Acapella with live music from Ackah Blay, Adina, Kiddie and MzVee.

I'll Propose to Emmanuella If..... - OB

Fast-rising Ghanaian comedian, OB, has disclosed to Comedy Empire that he would propose to Nigeria's Princess and Comedy Darling, Emmanuella. He made this known when the news team caught up with him at his residence today.

Speaking to Comedy Empire, the optometrist cum comedian disclosed, "I'm going to have fun with a young vibrant talent. I wish I had a childhood like hers... Where I would be boarding plane by heart. I wish every Ghanaian kid realized his or her potential like hers (Emmanuella)," he said amidst laughter, "Out of a million, she is a natural talent. Incredibly funny girl. If I were Tutulapato, I would ask her out on Saturday ."

OB who has performed on several stages including the recent Night of 1022 Laughs and Music is excited about this.

Emmanuella and her famous uncle, Mark Angel would be at the Efua Sutherland Park this Saturday to thrill Ghanaians with her famous acts. The event dubbed Kalybos meets Emmanuella and Mark Angel Comedy would see both comic actors battling it out alongside performances by various artist.

The day promises to be interesting and as to whether Uncle Mark Angel would watch a Proposal take place between his niece and Tutulapatu, we live to see.

Lekzy Decomic, Ghanaian Comedians Shine at 1022 Laughs and Music

Yes, he was the only one who got a standing ovation.

New comedy entrant, Lekzy Decomic became the toast of patrons at last Saturday’s MTN 1022 Night of Laughs and Music and at the end of his act, the excited patrons clapped and eventually stood up to show their appreciation.
Although he is relatively unknown, Lekzy Decomic, one of the three Ghanaian comedians on the night stood heads and shoulders above many of the popular comics from both Ghana and Nigeria as he delivered one joke after another to perfection at the Accra international Conference Centre(AICC) where the show came off.
Lekzy Decomic was introduced as the tallest comic in Ghana but his diminutive size came as a surprise to everyone. However when he kicked off his act with jokes about school life, his small stature and some jokes about Gas, he proved that size is no determiner of ability.
His jokes were not unique but he still managed to give an amazing performance and even had the audience joining in an impromptu “jama” session.
It was no surprise that his entire act was interspersed with applause from the crowd and he received a standing ovation at the end of his performance.
As usual, Forster Romanus who was the MC for the event proved once again that he is one of the best around. Every single time he held the microphone was an opportunity to thrill the crowd with rib-cracking jokes and funny jabs at the expense of some notable personalities and members of the audience.
His role as an MC was just as impressive as any of the main acts on the night and was instrumental in ensuring a smooth transition from one comic to the next without a single dull moment in-between.
Comedian OB, who was expected by many to make Ghana proud once again seemed to have had an off-day last Saturday as many of his jokes fell flat.
Kenny Black from Nigeria was another new entry to the stage but he made sure no one in the audience will forget his name anytime soon. Destalker also from Nigeria provided many side-splitting moments as he poked fun at many interesting situations common to both Ghana and Nigeria.
For the veterans, Acapella and I Go Dye, both from Nigeria, their effortless delivery and transition from one funny joke to the other was a justification as to why they are constantly being invited to the event over and over again.
On the music front, winner of MTN Project Fame, Kidi and MzVee were on hand to provide the first spot of music with Adina coming in next. Adina put on an energetic and impressive performance with the aid of the equally impressive live band.
Her performance was followed by highlife veteran Ackah Blay who of course treated patrons to what he does best—good music.
Unlike previous edition of the event held in December, last Saturday’s MTN 1022 Night of Laughs and Music was under-patronised. As at the advertised time of 8 pm, the auditorium was barely half-full and this might have been responsible for the organisers deciding to start the event about 45 minutes behind schedule.
However once the event kicked off, everything went smoothly and without a hitch.

Ajeezay, Sheldon In Plagiarism Feud

The budding comedy industry is having a feel of it's very first beef between two top notch comedians; Ajeezay and Kwadwo Sheldon. The two, who for sometime now, seem to be holding issues against each other have finally taken their sentiments to social media and this has raised a lot of discussion among fans of both comedian

In a facebook post by Ajeezay who goes by the username Nathaniel Mensah, he writes:
"Ma people!!!
Gh comedy has landed by God's grace
And a nigga is looking for a spot but coming from a wrong approach......
Easy come easy go
Nigga started hating since 2014 ..
Now by God's grace we buzzing and a nigga wana destroy the vibe... and seeking useless hype !!!!...
U started hating 2014...
Then you moved to me when I started buzzing... in 2015
U called me and said u udey HO POLY final year so if you finish aaa you link up ....
You even narrated some loooooong joke say make I shoot as a nonfa skit but I never shot it .........
I remember I voted for u during Twitter Ghana awards u wer den using pweedyella and you block me in 2015 because u wer trying to drop the pweedeyella mess and focus on your new amoapho name on Twitter...
U kept trolling celebrities and cos u wer a guy using a female name on Twitter u never used ur real picture... I remember u sent me your picture on WhatsApp to u tweet for people to your real face cos u wanted to use the real u on Twitter ..... you told me u wer not on Instagram, and Facebook but do only Twitter... den wen u lost the pweedeyella account on Twitter u opened a Facebook account where ur comedy ambition started 2016 ... u blocked me in 2015 never saw your tweets again .... so how will I come stealing your tweets... ???
Wer you not around wen I tweeted the sugar joke and it went viral ..... David Beckham.... waakye ...... etc
Anything I post on SOCIAL MEDIA that I knew I created it I quickly tag it with‪#‎NonfaKING‬ ... if it's not mine I don't tag it !!!
We have worked harder to get where we are !!
Ghana knows!!!"
In what seems to be an unending battle, Kwadwo Sheldon has countered the Nonfa King with harsh posts and the big question here is: Why the beef?

Background of Beef:
The two comedians, Ajeezay and Sheldon, are known for the mastery in Word Play. However, the camp of Sheldon believes Ajeezay plagiarises his works and this has led to both parties putting signatures on their works ever since. Kwadwo Sheldon and Ajeezay seem to finally have exploded from their long held grudge and this has raised a lot of discussions among their fans. While some believe the two have a genuine cause to grudge, others believe it is just a way to create attention.

Comedy Empire believes the duo are good talents and this beef is just not necessary. The industry doesn't need it. However, we'd keep you posted as events unfold.

The Underrated: Kwadwo Sheldon

I guess the first thing you'd like to see when you open your Facebook account is something funny to make you laugh. For some of us we follow our favourite comedians, for others we follow meme pages but did you know there's a Ghanaian who's taken the internet by storm with his comic acts?

Bernard Kwadwo Amoafo popularly known as Kwadwo Sheldon is the most trending but underrated comedian who has captured the ribs of Ghanaians with his sensational jokes and memes which he classifies as Observational Comedy. With over a thousand of his works displayed on the internet, some of which have been published on OMG VOICE, Sheldon seems to be making himself much popular with the Ghanaian populace. His mission; Using his passion to make society happy and see a laughing world, Kwadwo Sheldon seems to be accomplishing that every moment.

Follow him via social media on these handles

In response to why he chooses to use the name Sheldon, he said "Sheldon is a fictional character played by Jim Parson in 'The Big Bang Theory'.I chose that name because of how sarcastic the character is." He doesn't have mercy when it comes to politicians with his favourite being John Mahama who he refers as Jay Dreezy, Sheldon is likely to be the next big thing in Africa and beyond.

As it stands now, Sheldon is in international competition with Indian Meme Comic 'Be Like Bro'. He also faces home competition from Ajeezay De Nonfa King as Ghanaians believe one copies from the other.

Comedy Empire believes the two are geniuses in their own way and as part of our mission in promoting Ghanaian Comedy, we wish Sheldon all the best and promise to lend him the necessary support to his talent.

Lekzy To Dislocate Ribs at 1022 Laughs and Music

“There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor.”
― Charles DickensA Christmas Carol

After the historic show on 9th July at DKBs Point of View, a new twist is about taking place in the longest running stand-up comedy series in the country, A Night of Laughs and Music, as most of the acts seem to be from Ghana.

This year a new face would be appearing on the series and many just can't wait to have a feel of what Ghana's Kevin Hart has to deliver. With his outstanding performance at DKB's Point of View which earned him a standing ovation and again from patrons including celebrities, Lekzy Decomic is set to grace the stage again.

In a chit chat with Comedy Empire, the comedian expressed joy at the inclusion of other Ghanaian Comedians and himself. He believes it's a sign that the industry has come to stay. "I'm going to redefine comedy and this time patrons are going to set history by giving me a flying ovation when I'm done dislocating their ribs." He said.

Lekzy on that night would be performing alongside Foster Romanus, Acapella, I Go Dye, Destalker, OB, Khemikal, Kenney Black and a host of others.
