Yes, he was the only one who got a standing ovation.
New comedy entrant, Lekzy Decomic became the toast of patrons at last Saturday’s MTN 1022 Night of Laughs and Music and at the end of his act, the excited patrons clapped and eventually stood up to show their appreciation.
Although he is relatively unknown, Lekzy Decomic, one of the three Ghanaian comedians on the night stood heads and shoulders above many of the popular comics from both Ghana and Nigeria as he delivered one joke after another to perfection at the Accra international Conference Centre(AICC) where the show came off.
Lekzy Decomic was introduced as the tallest comic in Ghana but his diminutive size came as a surprise to everyone. However when he kicked off his act with jokes about school life, his small stature and some jokes about Gas, he proved that size is no determiner of ability.
His jokes were not unique but he still managed to give an amazing performance and even had the audience joining in an impromptu “jama” session.
It was no surprise that his entire act was interspersed with applause from the crowd and he received a standing ovation at the end of his performance.
As usual, Forster Romanus who was the MC for the event proved once again that he is one of the best around. Every single time he held the microphone was an opportunity to thrill the crowd with rib-cracking jokes and funny jabs at the expense of some notable personalities and members of the audience.
His role as an MC was just as impressive as any of the main acts on the night and was instrumental in ensuring a smooth transition from one comic to the next without a single dull moment in-between.
Comedian OB, who was expected by many to make Ghana proud once again seemed to have had an off-day last Saturday as many of his jokes fell flat.
Kenny Black from Nigeria was another new entry to the stage but he made sure no one in the audience will forget his name anytime soon. Destalker also from Nigeria provided many side-splitting moments as he poked fun at many interesting situations common to both Ghana and Nigeria.
For the veterans, Acapella and I Go Dye, both from Nigeria, their effortless delivery and transition from one funny joke to the other was a justification as to why they are constantly being invited to the event over and over again.
On the music front, winner of MTN Project Fame, Kidi and MzVee were on hand to provide the first spot of music with Adina coming in next. Adina put on an energetic and impressive performance with the aid of the equally impressive live band.
Her performance was followed by highlife veteran Ackah Blay who of course treated patrons to what he does best—good music.
Unlike previous edition of the event held in December, last Saturday’s MTN 1022 Night of Laughs and Music was under-patronised. As at the advertised time of 8 pm, the auditorium was barely half-full and this might have been responsible for the organisers deciding to start the event about 45 minutes behind schedule.
However once the event kicked off, everything went smoothly and without a hitch.
